Extension of FD Building

Context: CEPT University, Ahmedabad

Programme: Faculty of Design building (Design School)

According to CEPT University's proposed master plan, the Faculty of Technology is proposed to be shifted to where the current basketball court is. Once this happens, the next phase of campus expansion proposes to build the extension of the Faculty of Design building where the current FT building is. This was chosen as the dream project to propose an alternative solution by making use of the existing FT building itself to design the extension of the Faculty of Design building.

For buildings with 'good' architectural quality, the architectural concept of the existing building is studied 

  • programme and design intent

  • contextual response to site and climate

  • influences of the time the building was built

 

This gives a better understanding of how the building was used and what qualities can still be used.
