As the column footings alone could easily be replaced and were negligible parts of the old structure to retain, the project was henceforth dealt with as a greenfield project.
Step 1
In all brownfield projects, understanding the existing structure becomes crucial to the design process.

What is the structural system of the existing building?

What must be retained in the structure?

This step is likely to be more important when working with non-decrepit buildings, as the design intervention is likely to be more in quantum in order to bring in a sense of place.
While in the studio this project was treated as a greenfield project, upon reflection I feel this could have been treated as a brownfield project itself.
The column footings, as well as the brick from the old structure could have been repurposed to create new life in the same site.
